United Methodist Men and Women

Bob Haupt, President, UMM Fran Williams, President, UMW

The United Methodist Men’s organization of FUMC  awards two $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors in our church.  As no dues are charged, our funds are raised by a Chicken BBQ in the Spring, a Pulled Pork BBQ in the Fall and voluntary contributions from members. We are dedicated to enriching the spiritual life of the men in our Church and our hope is to make a positive difference in our Church and our community.

The United Methodist Women’s organization of FUMC shares its gift of God with others through missions. Their purpose is to grow in their understanding of God to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and expand concepts of mission through a willingness to participate in the global ministries of the church. The unit consists of four individual circles meeting once a month, two of which have night meetings and two with daytime meetings. The unit meets the first Monday of the months of January, March, May, September, and November. The May meeting is an evening meeting with a covered dish dinner. The program is based around four missions: Spiritual Growth, Outreach and Nurture, Social Actions, Education and Interpretation.

A few channels of undesignated giving are: World Thanks Offering, Prayer and Self Denial, World Day of Prayer, Reading Programs, Gifts in Memory and Special Recognition. Some local missions include: Shoe Fund, RAM House, Church Women United, Trinity Church Project, Bethany Hall, and Camp Alta Mons Scholarships. The individual circles have mission projects of their own choosing.

Circles

There are several sub-groups of the United Methodist Women, a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as a whole person through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and to expand the concept of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.  Circles #1,5,9, and the Response Readers encourage participation in spiritual studies, worship, and like activities, and support projects such as Henry Fork, the Food Pantry, the Clothes Closet, the Prison Ministry, and many others.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry is a fellowship of knitters and crocheters providing Prayer Shawls to those in need of comfort.
Once completed, each Prayer Shawl receives a Prayer of Blessing; extending the love of God and the healing power of prayer to the recipient.  No experience is required.

Seniors Keeping Young

Susan Kirby, Coordinator

S.K.Y. (Seniors Keeping Young) is is a fellowship and service group for our members and their friends age 50 and above.  Activities are planned to provide fellowship, as well as spiritual and educational growth opportunities for Seniors.  There are no dues, pledges, or required participation.  A monthly pot luck luncheon is held in the Fellowship Hall on the third Thursday of each month starting at 11:30 am followed by a program.  At least one trip is planned for each month using the church bus and/or church van.

Men’s Bible Study

Tom Bowers & Cameron Vest, Co-Coordinators The Men’s Bible study meets every Wednesday morning in room #116 (Conference Room)  from 6:30 – 7:30 a.m. (enter at door by the playground). Each week we choose a passage from the Bible to read, study, and discuss.  We pray for and encourage one another, we laugh a lot together and at each other.

It does not matter if you know a lot about the Bible and it does not matter if you know nothing about the Bible, the most important ingredient is that YOU Show Up because the Spirit of God always shows up!  We give each man their own personal Bible to keep and bring with them each week. We have all ages of men that come each week and most all of them will tell you that this hour is a huge highlight in their week. So come on in and give it a try, there is plenty of coffee and acceptance available.
