Outreach

First United Methodist Church seeks to reach out to the community and to the world through love, assistance and Christian example. Both our Mission team and Church and Society team are very active. If you, or someone you know may be interested in gaining more information about any of these opportunities, please contact the church office at 540.389.5459 or email church@fumcsalemva.org.

Community Outreach Program (C.O.P.)

Volunteers travel to Trinity UMC in downtown Roanoke monthly to assist with providing a meal for the children who are involved in this program. Volunteers also offer tutoring assistance weekly. During the Christmas season, we provide gifts for these children, as well as children from the West End Center.

Family Promise (Interfaith Hospitality Network)

Our church is a supporting congregation that assists another church in providing food, lodging and emotional support for homeless families. Please contact Jane Arthur, FUMC Family Promise Coordinator at (540) 915-4893 if you would like to volunteer your time! Home Touch Ministries “Reaching Out to Our Home Bound Members”  – The purpose of this ministry is to specifically target a loving touch to FUMC members who can no longer physically attend our church services.  So we take the church to them with a team of volunteers, by visiting them, praying with them, sharing in Holy Communion, and reading scripture together.

Salem Food Pantry

On the second Sunday of each month, FUMC collects loaves of bread to be given to needy families in the Salem & West Roanoke County areas through the Salem Food Pantry. We join together with other churches in the area that collect bread on other Sundays.

Shoe Fund

Hosts events throughout the year to provide a new pair of shoes to children in Salem & Roanoke who cannot afford them. This program is sponsored by the UMW in conjunction with Walmart. For more information, please email UMWShoeFund@gmail.com.
