This Holy Mystery: A United Methodist Understanding of Holy Communion
Holy Communion is one of the central acts of worship that we do as Christians, but belief and practice about Holy Communion has different nuances in various communities of faith. So, how do United Methodists understand and practice Holy Communion, which John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, referred to as “the grand channel whereby the grace of his Spirit was conveyed to the souls of all the children of God.”
Adopted by the 2004 General Conference of The United Methodist Church, This Holy Mystery is the official interpretive statement of theology and practice for United Methodists. We invite you to join us as we engage with scripture and the tradition of the Church to help grow in in our understanding of Holy Communion. Whether you have been receiving communion your whole life, or if you just started, there is something new for everyone to learn about this holy meal.
